Religion in Dialogue
    Ph.D. in Frankfurt

Religion in Dialogue is an international graduate study programme offered by the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt-on-Main, Germany. Applications are now invited from graduates with a good first degree in philosophy, sociology, Catholic theology, Protestant theology or comparative religious studies who wish to complete their Ph.D. thesis on a topic broadly related to the theme of Religion in Dialogue. Salient features of the programme include:

  • excellent supervision structures, designed to ensure that graduates complete their theses within three (or in some cases four) years
  • currently the IPP can not provide scholarships, but the graduates will be assisted in applying for  financial support
  • theses may be submitted either in English or in German (or, under certain circumstances, in another international language)
  • a global infrastructure of inter-university cooperation, providing both graduates and faculty with a lively platform for vigorous international exchange
  • twinning arrangements that allow doctorates to be awarded by two universities in different countries
  • a multidisciplinary faculty, strongly committed to interdisciplinary dialogue and study
  • an unusually attractive cluster of thematically relevant research and teaching resources
  • course content selected on a modular basis, designed to meet the specific needs of each individual graduate
  • a location uniquely suited to a programme of this kind
  • a programme of extra-curricular support and supervision, also including social events and excursions etc., designed to help ensure that each graduate's sojourn in Frankfurt is an enjoyable and rewarding one
  • advice and assistance on administrative issues, accommodation and expenses etc.

The programme is generously supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and as beeing part of the Goethe Graduate Academy (GRADE) all classes and courses there can be attended for free: You find the current classes here:
