To apply, please submit a simple letter of application plus the supporting documents listed below.

Please note that the German academic year is divided into two semesters, beginning in April and October respectively. You can join the programme at either of these two points. Applications for admission during the summer semester should be submitted by 01 December of the previous year, and for admission during the winter semester by 01 May of the same year. If we receive your application any later, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to join the programme at the desired point in time.

Please also remember to submit the following documents together with your application:

  1. CV.
  2. Brief outline of your proposed doctoral dissertation, written in the language in which you propose to complete your dissertation.
  3. Specimen of your work (e.g. copy of your master's thesis, long essay etc.).
  4. Letter of recommendation from a university teacher who is personally acquainted with you, and who is familiar with your academic work.
  5. Certified copies of your academic certificates (including language certificates).
  6. If your academic certificates were not issued in English or German, please include certified translations of those documents into English or German.
  7. Where appropriate, English or German language certificates.
